Why Sew?

How often do you wish you could sew? I'm sure often, specially when you go to the store, and see a simple dress for a ridiculous high price and for a minute you think 'wow if only I could sew'. Then you go to some other store and see a similar dress so cheap you just have to buy it, why sew it's not worth it, right. Okay then does it fit right, can you say it's one of a kind, can you say I made it and I'm proud...No!

Why sew, for the same reason you like to make everything around you feel that it's your style, from your electronic devices to the towels in your bathroom. You can make that creative spirit soar. You will be amaze just how much you can personalize with sewing. All it takes is your initiative to learn something new and creative spark to ignite the passion for sewing.

Where do you start:
Sewing machine first. What you get depends on your budget if you have the money go for quality if you have an empty pocket go for what you can get, even if it's at a garage sale. What makes a great sewer is not necessarily the machine. Do research online, facebook is full of sewing groups, youtube can also help, but the best people to get advice on a machine is the dealer, just make sure you stay with in your budget.

Once you have your sewing machine, you will need some necessary items and know some basic stitches.

Next you will need something to sew start with a simple pattern. There are many patterns company, you can start with Simplicity patterns, McCall's patterns and others. There's also a growing trend in new pdf sewing patterns, such as the ones sold in my shop. Choose beginner patterns, make a pillow, baby blanket, or a simple skirt, such as my Hipster skirt pattern.

Next is the fabric and that becomes an obsession by itself once you get the fabric bug you just can't stop.
Most patterns will tell you what fabrics you need and the amount, just remember feel that creativity in your hands and sew.

Get going and sew on!

"A good use for me is to let me go away with my sewing machine and come back with some really new stuff."
